I just found a very useful silent tutorial for the basics that helped out a lot but is there a website where people share their shader creations with it? It is still quite complex and the examples they made with the editor I'm sure took a long time to configure, it would be impossible for a newbie.
Find something you want to do, plan it out in your head or on a bit of paper, think of some basic workflow, and build it as you go. The Strumpy thread on the Unity forums does have a few graphs, and in the shaderlab forum you might occasionally see people posting their graphs.
