Last time I saw with the change to differed lighting, piping in a light vector to a material aren't possible anymore. Am I correct here, or is there something I'm missing? Just wondering...
You can always dig through the UDK thread or the polycount wiki http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?t=67290 Often you can find specifics, but there isn't a lot out there where someone sits down and walks you through setting up different types of materials. I usually go with trial and error, scouring google and art…
I'm sure I am missing something simple, but I can't figure out why my terrain has this patchy lighting on it. tried looking around for a solution and can't find anyone else having a similar issue. I tried increasing the static lighting resolution but that had no effect. any help would be much appreciated.
Hey guys, I wanted to share a new shader with you guys. First off, a big thank you to my colleague Niklas Hansson whom I created this shader with. He's the guy with the theoretical know-how of the inner workings of this shading method, he helped out with guiding me through the shader creation in Mental Mill as well as some…
Dynamic lights can't use lightmass. For the main lighting in your scene (like the sun) you should use lightmass, but then use dynamic lighting in places where you need it.
Thanks for the feedback. For now I'm ignoring the puddles and just trying to get a good general roughness to make the concrete look 'wet' without any collected water. I adjusted the camera to more closely imitate the original reference. Above is without extra point light. Had to make the surface really low roughness (0.2)…
Hello everyone, I'm not good with expressions actually i barely use it in Maya but I was wondering if there is a way to create an expression to control an attribute depending on the light intensity received by an object. This is more like an experimentation, hopefully you could help me figure this out. Actually the…
Can anyone reccomend me a cool character lighting tutorial? Doesn't matter what app it's for, as I'm guessing I can replicate it in Maya (just as long as it doesn't involve using Vray or any of it's lights).

Hi guys. I have a situation where I need to import pre existing models into a game. All the models have diffuse, normal and spec maps. The game they are going into only allows for a diffuse map. I still want all that subtle lighting info included so I figured my options are as follows: A. Bite the bullet and hand paint the…
