Hey Everyone! I am opening this topic to showcase my 3D sketches, and hopefully receive some feedback on them. I will try to credit the concept artist on each sculpt (as far as I know where the image comes from). I created this sculpt the other day, it took around 3 hours or a bit less than that (starting from a sphere). I…
Ok, update. Tried making the rust more colorful and tightened up its edges with a histogram filter. Think it really helps define the look. Ran into a little problem with the rust though. The blade of the sword was a solid 1 of full metal, and the rust on top was a full 0 for non metal. Problem with that is the rust gets…
Still a very confusing topic for me but from what I learned is that most programs now, like Substance, Xnormal, and Knald all use Mikkt space as the tangent space calculator to bake normal maps. Maya and 3ds max use a different tangent space calculator to bake normal maps. If you are exporting a mesh from Maya/3ds max to…
Nedwork, Thanks a whole lot for your crit! I appreciate it! Are you doing Undead Labs work over at the Seattle campus or at the Bellevue one? Anyway, the original farmhouse was done about two years ago in a Jason Stokes class when he was still teaching at Seattle Central. In that class, the maps were HEAVILY folded over…
Thanks again! I think you're right that they don't look great on that one but I think I have a better solution than getting rid of them altogether - The reason I don't want to do that is because then the roof would have a very sudden and straight edge - which is to fix their actual location which I seem to have messed up…
yeah zbrush is quite a beast out of the box and is nothing like any other app.. so while learning it you really have to throw anything you have learned from other packages out the window.. its a slow start but once you really dig into it, it will make more sense than max or maya.. i really hated the interface at first ..…
Substance Designer has only pretty useless smart tiling similar to "detect edges" in Alchemist . ( 7:11 in the second video) As of Alchemist it has a few promising features like Content aware fill (9:47) and clone but I never found it really helpful . They both deteriorate somewhat natural look of photogrammetry scanned…
Joeriv: haha I might be one of the few 3d artists who actually enjoys UVs (at least the final fitting to 0-1 part). It's def a giant puzzle! Teh Splatt, Powermaennchen: Thx! Battlecow: Too kind! I actually liked my original version of the cockpit framing more but there was one big problem: It wasn't functional. Oops!…
Hello ! No problem. Models from high profile games from this era (PS3/360) are IMHO excellent examples of what can be done with a reasonnable budget. Not only in terms of raw numbers (tris # and texture sizes) but also because they're good reality checks on what matters and where to cleverly cut corners, in turn giving you…
There are few more thing that matter . Substance Painter as any of modern 3d mesh painting soft does slightly more blurry textures because they don't work in integer texture space math. Even if you work in twice of target resolution initially . People used special one pixel brushes and pixel art style to do textures ones.…
