here's a picture i did a while back while working on the blizzard fanart contest, maybe it'll help. i just created a tileable normalmap out of this and then retopologized my mesh according to the normalmal, so i had tileable rocks i could use for the environment. -

yea i remembered that too :D . but finally they changed it to something more original. well much ugly of course. because lack of creative effort ... however japanese artists always appreciate anything that original. and willing to spare time to make fanart out of it -
