I just wanted to post another update. I think this is the final scene that I like. I brightened all the colors, added variations in the trees, and tried to use somewhat of a color palette to make my decisions. The fence was changed from before to this nicer more "What you would think a fence would look like" kind of look.…
I really dig the style of this scene! I'm curious if you're using a pre-made UDK skybox or if you modified it/made your own? Speaking of your atmospherics and lighting, I think you're relying a bit too much on flash and pizzazz before considering ways to push your scene traditionally. Like a great painting, lighting,…

kodde, see if this is what you want. Create a new render layer, add all your lights and geo to it. Right click the layer and choose attributes. Left hold click presets and choose shadow. Batch bake mental ray with bake shadows and light and colour as the color mode. It should generate a lightmap with only the shadow…
Thanks @RN - well pointed out on the shadows, to be honest, I did not pay too much attention to them, but it's a very pertinent detail to them. I was just focusing more on color and light. You're also right about the gummy bear, I noticed it's shadow error shortly after I closed the homework and posted it here. I've fixed…
Hello polycounters! My wife is now on her first year studying 3D Environment Art at local university. The teacher says they have to straighten every piece of UV to prevent edge bleeding. Is it the right way? I doubt you can flatten a sphere or something curvy in a flat square without a visible distortion but I may be…
I think you guys might be getting a little carried away with the color. I guess it depends on the intent of the scene. As a game environement the original reads much better and looks much more believable as a "real world" environment. But if you were doing a level for the "speed racer" video game based on the movie, sure,…
I have been out of the engine loop for too long. I'm working on designing a house that I want to explore from the inside and get a good idea for how it will look both inside and out during the various lighting changes from day to night. I would like an engine that ideally can: * Built in day/night cycles that affect…
I think it needs more fog. Something that would sell it too, I think, would be the adding of a dominant directional light (night time one) over the top right of the church. A bright moon in that large gap with the moon light hitting the church in a sweet way would totally improve it IMO
Hi NAIMA, The non-detail shot of the grass looks pretty good to me, better than any grass I've ever made (I'm not a grass expert either). The only problem I see right now is the repeating dots. I think the saturation of grass (or any texture) is really a property of light in the natural world, so if your scene is lit like…
