Not old fashioned. It's situation dependent. I find myself starting in Zbrush or Modo entirely dependent on the nature of the object. For 'organic' characters, I tend to start in Zbrush. Sometimes I start in Modo to get my blockouts going much faster, especially for things like a weapon. I'd comment that some of the…
Oh man, I can confirm how great that workflow is. Of course someone's probably going to be very helpful and clever, chiming in to say "muh dynamesh", but that's actually very different. For those interested in trying it for free, Blender has it too with the "Dyntopo" option in sculpt mode and it is a huuuuge time saver. It…
So, here it goes. Decided to start a sketchbook with this new project and hopefully get some feedback along the way. I´m more of a concept/2d artist but I want to learn how to sculpt and realize my characters, so there´s gonna be both 2d and 3d. Lets start with my current project, Bombercat: I´m happy with the shape so far…
Hello everyone. I continue to make the helmet and learning ZBrush. As it turned out, ZBrush is not so difficult as I imagined. I made the base of the crown and pushed thorns inside the base. Also I began to detail the horns and faced with little difficulty. Can someone suggest how best to make them smooth as metal, with…
I dont think there is one way. A lot of people still prefer the ZSphere approach, a lot of people whos timelapses you can see, use Dynameshed Spheres. Maqqued Workflow is a great workflow for beginner who have to wrap their head around anatomy. It's basically building a Zsphere skeltal (well you don't have to, and then…
@Bagel: Yeah, I've been using that reference before I even made my first few posts in this forum. --- I'm not going to be surprised if this sketchbook will be nothing but Asaro faces for a good while. Anyway, I guess this is WIP #2: http://linkzelda41.deviantart.com/art/Asaro-Head-WIP-3-Turntable-500669061 I ended up using…
I just had a quick look at the files themselves and didn't try to bake anything, but the HP has plenty of non-manifolds and degenerate faces, probably courtesy of dynamesh and then carrying over through the decimation process (if not created there). Different software might resolve those differently.
Hi. I started to learn 3D last summer. I got some tutorials for Maya and so far i am doing great. I want to learn Anatomy. But i don't really know how to start. I want to start in Zbrush, since i also learn zbrush, and it is the best program, just a little bit creepy. Do you think i will be ok if i start to learn Anatomy…
Hello everyone. I decided to go with Maokai, since I thought he had an interesting design and it would also give me an oppotunity to try out some new ideas i've been having about creating the mesh. For the concept and layout, I decided to block out the character with Zpheres inside Zbrush. After i found a good pose and…
I usually start a non-concept/speed sculpt of a human head with a basemesh with existing rational topology. There are several reasons for this: very easy to manipulate the forms; very useful for later on when detailing and asymmetry layers are used; forms are sculpted more naturally as the topology is set up accordingly.…
