I have a texture of windows, an example should be below. I am trying to be able to create material instances (in udk) to switch between the different windows by offsetting the texture, like in Max. I thought this would be stupid easy, but have a feeling I am just missing the easy part. I thought I could use panner to tell…
Hey hey everyone! been a long time since I posted anything here, but here goes. I've been having a play with a Star Wars Tie Interceptor and feel I am maybe 75 - 80% done, but kinda feel I could use some critique and suggestions to get it done.. I'd be very happy to hear any thoughts anyone might have on how I could move…
I'm pretty sure it will happen, but am less sure it can be done well. Cross-platform just won't work - and it's not for technical reasons. Early cross-platform shooters on the 360 demonstrated that PC gamers had such a colossal advantage in the mouse and keyboard that console players simply quit permanently. Games like…
No this is not how game artists do it. Set your smoothing groups by your uv islands to start. There are scripts that do this. In general at very hard edges with angles >75° you want to set a hard edge/smoothing group. Where ever you have a hardedge/smoothing group you need to detach that as a uv island. Force triangulate…
I'm with the guys who've branched out. Game Art Freelancing tends to be 75% small clients (at least for me) and thus I need to string together multiple contracts at a time. I've done some Advertising work with Unreal for a few places in New York that have deep pockets and huge clients that has paid very well. I've done…
You can control the quality loss of JPG in photoshop ? Just use something thats not too low. I used 75% for all my images now, that seems to have no visible loss. Hm the miscreated stuff looks a little bland, empty rooms and floors are not as exciting, dont you have any assets to fill ? Maybe try compressing most assets in…
There is a lot of wasted space in your UV's, both because of odd UV packing and nearly 75% of the entire map not being visible. As others have said, collapse as much as you can and get rid of those unseen faces. You have a lot of room to mirror UV's as well over 70% of the mesh and diffuse are symmetrical. The…
Without a prior portfolio or experience I doubt he'd get 1200 for it hawken. Atleast in my experience. ANd I'm assuming there is no prior experience as he has to ask. However 100 and 75 are deffinatly too low. Also, colours used shouldn't really matter snemmy. Atleast in my experience. Black and white or colour is purely…
Anyway, here is a quick update: Didn't have the time to work on lighting yet, still 3 assets left to finish off. But I'll get to it as soon as possible! Also working on the animations and the particle effects in UDK. Just threw in some quick stuff to block out timing and overall look using kismet. Here is another vid of…
Hold the phone, you guys actually charge your clients ?! Cmon your sposed to be doing this stuff out of the kindness of your huge art loving hearts!!!!! Pay your bills with love! <-- Stop and think about that for a sec. Meanwhile: Back in the real world $35 is an absolute rock bottom minimum, $50 - $75 is a decent median…
