Off the top of my head, this is assuming you're comparing lightmaps to a real time shadow map solution. LIGHTMAPS pros: 1.quality of the light rig is unlimited as it is baked, so you can do whatever you want global illumination and all that magic 2.saves a lot of frame rate, our real time shadows costs about 4ms which is…

Hey! Great step to start posting online. It's a really good habit to have since you'll learn to communicate about your work, making nice screenshots (even the WIP ones!) and getting feedback :+1: This is a great start so far! Right now it could really help to flesh out your meshes and blockout so you can see how the scene…

"The model is to represent sand dunes and will be cnc'd to a 1:25 scale" If you haven't done so already, the first step isn't to worry about how to convert things to OBJ, but rather to get in touch with the CNC operator who's going to take care of your job. The CAM (that is to say : the machining prep) could be done in…
Yup, just clamp the area you want to use to extract from texture. To combine 2 images you multiply by 0.5 both images and add 0.5 to 1 of them. Then to extract you clamp base texture with min 0 and max 0.5 to get 1st map and min 0.5, max 1 to get 2nd map. You can also multiply by 2 to get them back to their original range…

If you go to CGtextures under brick, you'll find lots of similar textures you can use as a base. I will usually up the contrast in those textures just a little notch. Yeah, i…
