Looks good, I would reccomend you start with making sure that the sillhoute and proportions are as attractive as possible, I can't really put my finger on it since a mech doesn't have realistic proportions, but I think the proportions and sillhoute can be adjusted some more to be more appealling.

Whenever I do realistic studies I always run into the issue of the sculpt shape not matching the reference especially when rendering in other programs and I think the main part of the issue is the focal length not matching up. Is there a rule of thumb for the camera focal length when sculpting/rendering?

Looks great, the lighting looks realistic and suits the gun well. The hard plastic body works pretty well but this grunge detail stands out a lot which would be a bad thing if you have multiple guns in the same scene/game. Other than that the textures are great :smiley:

There are plenty of core skills and ideas that don't relate only to 3D or 2D. Design, composition, color etc aren't really tied to a certain number of dimensions. However, you certainly don't have to become super skilled at creating realistic drawings of objects in order to sculpt them in zbrush.
