Well, one small note would be the amount of influence the arms have on the wrists. I know he's grabbing the handles, but there's a noticable amount of disconnect from the forearms and the hands. Might need some more motion the the hands to split the difference or tone down the arms.
Art: I think you should be really happy with your results. It is a crazy amount of stuff to finish in the given amount of time, and considering it was a first for all of it, its pretty awesome really. Keep it up, I can't wait to see your next project.
I'm not sure what type of topology would provide the minimum amount of tris in the model. What are some ways I can reach a certain level of detail with minimum amount of tris? Parts like the blade or the central cylinder area had me stumped a bit.
I guess it depends on how many you have to paint in total. Mari is designed as a high throughput tool. If you have a large amount of texturing to do, Mari will make you as fast as possible. If the amount of time you save is large then Mari makes sense.

In UE 3 more textures in a material (shader) don't increase draw calls. They only increase the amount of texture fetches from the memory. But a model having multiple materials does increase draw call amounts. :) Personally I'd use bigger texture with a single mesh.

no they are not. you are alowed to carry up to a certain amount, bellow that it is consider for consuption, above that you get persecuted as someone who intended to sell. dont know the exact amounts though, but they are pretty small. its the line between user and dealer that is still very blurry unfortunately.
What about using crease amounts when in edge selection mode? I am unable to see your linked dropbox images due to my firewall at work, but by increasing your crease amount on a selected edge will harden it similar to adding a chamfer. Might be a useful alternative?
