some of you may remember me from a few months ago, im at my second year in uni and we're learning character modelling/animation. I will soon be building morph targets onto my face and I was wondering if, before that, there was anything that drastically needed changing on my models topology (this is my main reason for…
Hello Polycount! So, long story short - I wanted to learn ZBrush for a long time as my support tool for hard surface modeling (for making details etc). I have found pictures of really beautifully crafted Japanese matchlock (Tanageshima) and I thought it will be a great exercise to create it with help of ZBrush. For start,…
Well, first of all the model you linked is far from being as wonky as you make it sound ... The meshing is clean and the unwrap is flawless. It not having a centerline is a bit odd but nothing crazy, and the split edges are trivial to fix and seem to just be the consequence of a conversion that split the model according to…
All job positions offer hybrid assistance perks, meaning you can WFH for 2-3 days per week from the beginning! If you want to fully WFH, usually that can be achieved after trust is built between employer and employee. If you're interested, I highly encourage you to send me a message here in Polycount :) I'd be happy to get…
I wonder if this is just the top of the line model then selling at a much higher price than regular consoles. I seem to recall they were planning different tiers for their console, so perhaps the mortal tier which games might actually target as a baseline will turn out a good deal weaker. There must be a catch here - 899…
I mean processor power. Let's ignore ease of setup or animation functionality for now. Also it's not for a facial rig: picture a hose disconnecting from a valve. So a simple spline-tube animating from connected to disconnected. A group my coworker is working with wants to use morph targets to animate that, but it makes…
Nice article, thanks for sharing. I was curious about your opening statement. Seems unclear to me why you used the word taboo. Perhaps "difficult" is more descriptive here. Taboo generally means it's off-topic for cultural or moral reasons, neither of which seem to apply here. If you're presenting this to students, I'd…
Yes. But in the example given by Alex Javor, the cut pieces are in strategic locations (like on the end of the arms, where the shirts begins). So the assembly happens on a geometry level; the pieces aren't a continuous mesh and normals shouldn't be an issue (the hands intersect underneath the sleeves for example. Hats…
Hey Eric, thanks. Based on my initial tests that I just did, it isn't but I could be wrong. It seems like the checkbox "determinism" isn't working correctly. I tried to enable seeded randoms in the particle, and capture the frames using a scene capture and a render target on a fixed time step, but the results were always…
The way to get rid of cancer is by removing the bad cells. I can't say what is causing this bizarre behavior, but it does look like you are modeling with smooth mesh preview enabled. Typically you don't want to model with that turned on, only use it to preview. One quick check you can do to make sure you don't have…
