Hey kids! Thought Id write up my process of how I painted this piece. I typically struggle with perspective a lot, so I wanted to integrate some small tricks using 3D in this to make sure I didn't fail too hard. I recently watched a tutorial from the badass Barontieri, and he actually used way more 3D stuff than I had…
Nice man, I really like Ryan Lang's stuff as well. Something to be a bit careful about though with his work is that he showcases his personal work a lot and his concept stuff is a bit more hidden. (professional portfolio - http://ryanlangportfolio.blogspot.com/ ) This is pretty common to do with pros who are in the scene…
Anyone know why I can't get the CTRL-right click menu to pop up in maya? the right click menu pops up fine... and shift-right click works too... just not CTRL. Any thoughts? I've tried different driver versions but haven't found one that doesn't have this problem so far. I'm using a 7600GS rube
The scene is coming along nicely. Based on the reference, you can see bounce lighting on the crates underneath the plank. The blue and purple are a lot more saturated than what they look like right now. You might want to use more reflection captures and definitely play around with post process. The modelling is really…
Wow, it looks great! I look forward to seeing more of this. The only thing I can spot (and it's really small) is in your second image. The inner edge next to the hammer and handle on the left gun seems to crease inwards, unlike the opposite side seen on the right-hand gun. It could just be the lighting, but it might be…
I might try that out, kinda busy right now :P Here are some of the pics from the project I'm working on in school. It's supposed to be a cut-off statue head. Made it in Zbrush from a sphere, which took me about two hours. Did this for the project as well. It's kinda the standard enemy. Made a normal map for it and used a…
Sounds right, I haven't used vertex color much, the engine where I worked last didn't export it at all. Bobo has a tut on his site about baking vertex color as a base for painting the diffuse. Edit... actually, there are more light-baking options within the Vertex Paint modifier itself, that utility is older and has less…
I would defer to your knowledge, you would know far more about both systems than I would. If you think its more stable and easier to work with (on the backend) I believe you. I was more or less thinking out loud and hoping someone could help fill in the gaps. I thought I had some info on the differences between the two but…
You're right, my lighting is kind of off. I will move the point lights on the upper rocks down lower so they look more like they are coming from the lanterns. There is fog in the scene, but it isn't very thick. I didn't want to drown the scene in fog, but I will play with the fog strength a bit. A mist and/or dust particle…
The room is really starting to come together now. I made a few paintings, and books. Just adding those in and populating the room with it a little bit has made it look leagues better. I am still struggling with the lighting a little bit, so that will most likely be the next problem to tackle. Just the way I have it set up…
