Help with tangent normal maps
Hi I'd like to know, besides topology tweaks, if something can be done in terms of normal map baking and the filetypes used. My setup has been xnormal TGA bakes Of course, as an asset gets textured, normal map compressions tend to disappear in the noise so to speak, but I'd like to get as perfect a bake as I can anyway.… -

The engine will triangulate it anyway so just retriangulate it before export with some manual input to ensure there are no shading artifacts. Often times with large n-gons with many verts you will get undesired results with auto-trianulate so it's best to put a few strategic edges in yourself to guide the process. This is… -

Substance designer and substance painter do not like polygons with more than 4 sides. The on-screen display will have holes in it where you have them and the bakes will look funny. Zbrush will do weird stuff if you try to import a mesh that's not quads. N-gons are the least predictable in this case in my experience. So… -
