Well, adding in extra geometry shouldn't be that bad, depending on your budget and platform etc. But if you're worried, you could always use planes to put em on. Means you'd either have to use an alpha which is prolly gonna drain more performance than the actual brick meshes, or, you could jus use planes without alpha, but… -

quick texel density question
Im trying to get my bricks to line up correctly with my modular wall pieces. If im using a 2k brick texture, and scale my UVs to match my texel density (which I'm currently using 5.12 per meter), the bricks dont line up the way I need them too. Yeah, the trick is to make unique/non-tiled textures is to combine them in the material. It doesn't have to be extreme, for example a brick wall (1x1) with another grime texture masked over it (1.43x1.43) can break up the uniformity of the tiling.
