Yeah it's definitely defaulting to 2 lights, is there a way to set it back to 1? I've had a look at my MaxStart file, but I can't find which bit refers to default lights.
Yeah but, the engine has to sort all your separated objects, making 5 drawcalls when one object skinned to bones produces only 1 drawcall (bones arent sorted).
Have you tried moving the mirrored uv islands back into 0-1 space? There's no reason why they can't overlap unless when you're actually baking your normal maps.
