to get rid of the jaggies in photoshop: -select the layer to remove jaggies on -go to the layer menu at the top -select "matting / defringe" -

Sounds like your ALT key is stuck somehow. CTRL-ALT-A is select all layers, ALT+[ ] cycle layers. -

You could put it into a layer than freeze the layer.... better to use and engine though like others have suggested. -
