I've spent some time improving the materials for the rocks and roots, added a top moss shader and a cool GOW inspired energy cracks effect to the roots to spice things up. Still have to work on the foliage, lighting, crystal and then I can move on to small/medium props for storytelling!
What I usually do is paint everything as 1 on the root then start working away. If I notice any white areas on the root I know something is off and easier to work that way. Gnomon has some rigging and skinning tutorials and Digital Tutors have some too.
No...it's a BUNCH of boxes. Ok...seriously now...What exactly are you having a hard time with? It is a basic model...that has a stone texture on it and a basic tree root model with a tree root texture on it. I think if you knew 3ds max modeling tools you could knock this out in no time.

you don't start the mod as the mod, you start it as UT3, copy the airborn folder into your UT root, change the link we put into the package so it has your UT root in it and not ours and thats it, run the mod. however change dm-001 in that link to dm-000 works better :)
