I'm very early on my journey here as well, so take what I say with a pinch of salt. But I think in terms of visualizing where you need to try to get to it's helpful to take a look at the portfolios of the finalists of the Rookies Awards https://www.therookies.co/contests/121/finalists. Those are basically the best people…
My workshop submission: Ok, first up is a WIP for a Daedalus crossbow for Sniper, these are the greyscale side/top views that I wanted to work on, which I set as image planes in maya to help me model. My initial pass on a 3D model, notice the triangle count is way too high. Dota 2 Daedalus v.01 (click to view in 3D) and…
Hey Guys and Gals, I have been a long time reader but this is my first post: I was watching Jesse Cox play Uncharted 4 - sadly I don't currently have a PS4, so I can't play the game myself. I have to say, it's really amazing in pretty much every regard so big "good job" to all possible Uncharted 4 devs reading this. Anyway…

Pretty good so far. It could use a rim light and an image-based-lighting sphere to get some reflections and show off what you have done with the roughness layer. Right now it's hard to tell if there is even much of a roughness layer. Also that T-junction where the beam that's holding up the globe meets the table's ring…
+1 to everything Brian mentioned, and additionally: check out other environment artist's portfolios. You're up against pros here now. Your presentation needs to be current and appealing, it looks a bit outdated. Work on your lighting and basic FX. Probably present on a darker slightly tinted background imho but thats less…
Last week I ended up being a day late with the update and this week I'm posting the update a day early since I'm going on a mini-vacation this weekend. This week I got a lot of feedback from the fine folks in "Ryan Benno's Game Artist Hangout" Discord server. They suggested adding some spotlights in to emphasize the door…
Thanks for the critiques and advice everyone. Very helpful and much appreciated.I set out to do a "sci fi corridor scene". A project showing a corridor leading to a room. Displaying high to low poly modeling, modular work flow, a handful of hero props, shared textures etc. My take on it was building it with in an old…
Here's an alternative: Begin with the Zbrush standard base mesh. Use the move brush to reshape it to fit your needs, and save out a copy. If you want to reduce the initial polygons, you can "reconstruct subdivisions." If you need some custom topology, you can edit it with zModeler. But for a normal human, the zbrush base…
