I reply the most to threads where there's more to critique, but there has to be something positive to say as well, or your critique would basically amount to 'not good, learn to draw/model'. Re: Getting "next gen" weapons to look good when facing away from the light
I think the lack of shading when facing away from the light shouldn't be handled by artists. If it looks good when directly lit there's no reason to modify the asset. Baking a points light lighting will probably interfere with the dynamic ingame lighting and be confusing. The rendering has to handle both situations… -

Eric Chadwick: how about some tool section as well (like standalone out of 3d apps tools)? I know some members here like FunkyBunnies or some of my stuff that could fit in there. And I'd love to see some greater overview of free or powerful tools crafted by this or similar communities. A few that come to mind* xNormal *… -
