Don't use Photoshop, if you care about subtle shading differences between composite and render. Sorry. Use a proper compositor like Nuke or Flame or even After Effects. In a pinch you can use the Slate Material Editor in Max as a compositor. Use the Composite map node, and right click on the preview render to choose Render…
