It definitely won't let you compare 1-to-1 exactly. You can try creating a camera to view an angle closer to the original camera. But I think you'll just have to eyeball it. Real-world cameras have barrel distortion and other artifacts that most 3d cameras don't have (unless you put a ton of effort into it).
To me it looks like the character is about to cry. Like someone told you "Your art sucks" and you're trying to maintain your appearance to not cry. But I like the rest of the idea.
