Well i dont know how the level one looks like but make sure you dont have any stretched quads like the once on your shoulder now. They should all look like the once on the chest of your model- just squares.

You could also use dynamics, but don't do all at once. Do like 50 objects at a time. Once they're still, use them as a passive rigid body and drop another 50 active on top. Or whatever number suits your hardware :)
Yeah i've never heard of him before, I would definitely say go for full on, once you achieve the realism if you need to make changes to make it look like not him then that's fine and will be easier once you;ve gotten the right shapes
