Zbrush Sub Tool Bevel
I've set up a generic pattern masked upon a cylinder. What i want to do is "extract" the masked out area "bevel" the edges at the same time. Is this possible? -

There are no strict rules. Sometimes you need AO for masks generators only . I usually bake several AOs with different settings for different purposes. -

Maybe you could do some trickery with masks. Use the Material Editor, and add a Falloff as a mask for the AO. -

That looks like an issue with masking. Check your layer masks and layers to ensure they're properly set up.
