One of the first projects I wanted to tackle was creating a dragon egg from Game of Thrones. It looked simple and easy to do as a beginner, and boy was I wrong. I cannot seem to figure out how to pull it off. Here is a link to another user who was looking for the same help, forgive my asking again but I cannot seem to…
Teacher only requested minor changes, so it's full steam ahead into 3d! Thanks for the suggestions and kind words guys, really adds to the motivation. Going to get some some more of the sky color in the sand and try for some really far out heavy blue flora here and there, we'll play it by ear. Started the first pass on the…
I'm newer to modeling and most of my meshes come out pretty well as I am self taught but have learned quite a bit. with this mesh I am working on I am having an issue where I am getting black areas or spots along the edge of my mesh. I actually have not really learned how to retopo so the mesh was only decimated in zbrush…
Hi Joao! Thanks for the comments, I do think in some places I might have gone over the top a little bit. However there's a few reasons for which I've gone so high poly with this. Here they are: - Theres quite a few cylindrical objects in the scene: wheels, tubes, headlights, turret, exhaust pipe. All these objects require…
Hey Mary, looks like you're having fun with it which is a big advantage! :) For rendering, I would think that it is more about your approach than the tools. Consider the method that you're applying to describe form change. These two examples use strictly line rather than light/shadow. Of course, that is fine if you are…
[ QUOTE ] 3: How can they fly to the edge of the universe and see who is there it's not like a house you can look out window ! If you did try to fly to the edge and it was expanding you would never reach the edge because it's expanding at the speed of light ! If it was contracting once you got to the edge you would be…
I'll second extruding along a curve to make wires. I will also add that, if you want a curve to follow the existing geo, sometimes selecting the base mesh's edge, and going convert > mesh edge to curve, is a great way of getting a curve which is almost identical to the mesh you want it on. If you dont want your wires to…

How are you beveling though? If you're just beveling edges that's a mid-poly workflow that requires custom vertex normals. Depending on what program you use, you'll need a tool/plugin for it. It's also not the standard workflow since it has some complications, eg requiring huge tri counts. Guns are pretty complex so that…
The messed up edges in the picture you linked are when you have two different smoothing groups that aren't on seperate UV islands. The one way I know to fix that if you want to use those smoothing groups is to just break them apart on the UV. Most people seem to prefer using as few smoothing groups as possible however…
