Having some bandage meshes that you just unhide as the animation plays would probably suffice, a rigged plane sounds a bit too elaborate they do exactly that in that Far cry video I believe -

Trying it out. Seems pretty cool :) I like the idea of the spinner, but I would love the capability of using keybinds for transforms to do free transform, similarly to what Blender has. I find it very useful for animating without having to do much clicking/selecting. -
