Hello polycount! I've never shared work here before, but I'm trying to reach out and find more folks to talk with about this kind of stuff. Here's a WIP of a small project I'm working on, which I started because of a JHill video lol. Character is based off of a drawing done by Pavel Hristov.

Hoping to have this done soon, I'll try to keep this thread updated. Enjoy!

Neat work! Is the lighting all painted in, or are you using some dynamic shading? Curious what the images are made with, and where you’re going next.

All lighting is manually painted here, I'm using a shader that disables all actual lighting in substance painter. The image I posted is just screen captures I took from substance and combined/cleaned up in photoshop. Nothing fancy, but I like to present things cleanly if I can haha

Sweet, old school, fits right in here!

I’d suggest you could add a bit of red saturation along the shadow/light terminus. But of course depends on the reference material. Thinking of the PSG Art Tutorial… https://androidarts.com/art_tut.htm

The image I'm referencing doesn't have much subsurface scattering, but I'm only vaguely referencing it to begin with haha. I painted in a bit of saturation along the shadows and it looks pretty good! Maybe a bit intense, but I can tweak it later. I appreciate the feedback

Getting real close to finishing this up! Just a few things left to finish up and refine. Then I'll probably ignore it for a week to see it with new eyes lol

    I love where this went.

One thing that's bugging me a little is how blurry the hair is. I wonder if a few hairs with sharp highlights might help this pop better?

Yes! That was something I hadn't gotten to yet lol, but I like the mock-up you did. Here's how the hair looks now, just gotta finish off the rest of the hair and I think I'll be ready to start taking some beauty shots this weekend

Unless you have any other bits of feedback? I appreciate what you've given me so far

    Nice...very!

looking at her hairline scar? - now I'm only referencing real world tattoo application and not by any means questioning your artistic direction / aesthetic of this piece so merely a suggestion.

Anyhow rather than it's pattern abruptly end at the boundary, maybe continue adding discoloration or minor surface irregularity over that blemish too replicate hypertrophic or in other words raised thick scaring on an existing tattoo - again just a thought   :)

    Edit:
My paintover is absolute pus but hopefully illustrates what I meant

So now that you have the hair shine, I’m wondering if the eyebrows and eyelashes also need some love? They seem a different color now.
