ive been working on a robot for 18 years now .. more seriously - pre-substance painter our outsource partners would produce a set of modular assets (average 10-12 pieces) mapped, textured and lodded (5-7 handmade lods) in 20 days with feedback. This was first-party AAA content for ps4 speed comes from making good decisions…
My golden rule, get it in engine. Substance viewport really does a great job to give a nice result within Substance, but the target should always be the engine you'll be working in for your final. Roughness maps for instance, I've rarely, if ever had them match 1:1 in Substance compared to UE. I too get the normal map…
*Latest: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've been working on trying out some new techniques in MODO and Substance Painter. This is what i have so far. I'm not super happy with the presentation, any feedback is welcome. The whole thing was modelled…
Hey, Polycount. So i've been bashing my head recently trying to figure out what it is I am doing wrong to not get decent normal map bakes out of substance painter. I've searched the web and have tried many different methods of bake out maps but to no avail I still get nasty artifacts that I just do not know how to get rid…
Well 3 years later and my work has changed dramatically. Lots of self study with Digital Tutors, lots of advice and critiques from artists at conventions and meetups. Learned new software and techniques like Mudbox, Zbrush, dDo and Substance Designer. Still pretty new at all those, but getting stronger with Zbrush and…
Doesn't have all that much to do with whether a texture is tiling or unique. Textures are just images. For a long long time Photoshop was the best available image editor for our needs. Besides painting directly onto an image or manipulaitng photos into a texture it allows you to do a lot of automation by clever use of…
here are some of the models i have produced so far. 1. Mattress, Pillow and blanket - had to learn ncloth, textured blanket and mattress in substance. Mattress needs redoing as the texture is not at all near what i am looking for. Also i need to make a low poly version of the blanket as it is too high poly. Think the…
Thanks for the feedback. @JimmyRustler: I like the large forms in the clothing, looks good. How are you texturing the head? --- Substance Painter is a 3D painting app. I really enjoy it, feels much more natural to me to paint directly on a 3d surface. Here is the "Layers" dialog from substance painter for this mech. I made…
Hi, i would like to apply my normal map painted in substance painter but these jaggy edges happens, why ? i exported from substance with arnold ai standard surface presets and yet i have these results. Maps are baked hi poly to low poly in substance also.
@Donato I am an amateur as well, so take my advice and opinions with a lump of salt. Regarding your current textures, my tip would be to layer on some grunge maps and add imperfections to your textures in Mixer. Small things like dust, smears, and worn varnish can add a lot in terms of realism. Quixel has an…
