Hello all! I am going to the Game Developers Conference and made a new business card design for the event. I would love some input on them. My target is to get hard surface modeling jobs, either freelance or full time positions. My uniqueness comes from my background in rebuilding cars, should I make my card focus on that,…
Hey guys, I'm currently doing a character sculpting project at University this is my first time sculpting using Z brush. I'm having some trouble getting the hands right on the character, Originally they were created using zsphere on the original block out, but I had some weird problems when I changed to dynamesh so I had…
I'm trying to bake a high to low normal map using Substance Painter (I've tried Substance Designer too). Usually I'll use all soft edges on my low poly, but that gives me some severe gradients, especially on this model. So I've been reading up on using hard edges to get a better bake. I'm using Maya, so I mark certain…
Well, I don’t see a problem with anyone who is posting their art. And there’s essentially no hard distinction between 3D Showcase and Digital Sketchbooks. It’s up to the poster to choose which they’d prefer.
Hello everybody, I am trying to figure out how can I create a shader in Unreal 4 where I can add a texture which would be blended on top of the Albedo with the same effect as Photoshop Hard Light. This is just intended to get some texture variation on tileable textures. This is my asset, (in substance painter) this is the…
Why can't you use a soft brush? If you use a hard brush to blend (like a round or chalk stamp) you're going to get that "hand-painted" texture to some extent. If you're going to keep polishing the blending until it looks smooth, it makes more sense to me to use a soft brush instead and get to that point faster. You seem to…
I wouldn't limit yourself to only being described as a hard surface artist. I made that mistake coming out of school, and while I can't blame my lack of employment on that solely, I don't think it helped. It took me over 2 years to get full time employment, and only as a "3d artist" (even though I still only do hard…
Yep, SSD = amazing, it makes so much more of an impact vs any other upgrade that I've done over the last few years. I don't understand how people can drop $300-400 on a new video card and still stay with platter drives. Although max and maya are starting to lean on video cards more and more so they are really important,…
Hello PC. I started a hard surface reference tumblr - essentially a collection of hard surface imagery in the form of collages and typologies - to serve as a starting point for further reference gathering and idea generation. http://hardsurface.tumblr.com/ Thought I'd share with the community, cheers!
