I haven't been making much progress lately. I'm stuck on some curved surfaces, and it's been really tough to figure out how to get them smooth. No matter what I try, my surfaces always end up looking bumpy and uneven.
Tell me if this sounds familiar? I can do everything alone. I don't need anyone. I am smart, hard working, and most of all, I have been hurt, so why do I need anyone? You're not alone there... been there myself many times. We are all in this life together, and none of us got where we are without help from someone. That is…
First of all, no one said reference has to be photos. There have been tons of convincing goblin artworks throughout history, look at how they did it. Secondly, anatomy is anatomy. That goblin is going to have real bones lying underneath his skin, and there's a good chance that those bone's are going to bear some…
Hey guys, Sorry for the lack of updates. I have been away working at Mediastation doing some freelance work for them, and am just coming back to updating my portfolio now. I am finishing off a couple of scenes then I will make the changes that have been recommended to my earlier scenes. Regards, Ben Merrick

I began reeling back my portfolio work realizing maybe at this time I am focusing on to big of a picture. I wanted to start some prop work and hopefully build from there. I started sketching and came up with a real world weapon with a touch of fantasy. It would be a Dane Axe, but an earlier, cruder version with a tribe…
Looking great so far. Though I'm thinking the legs should probably not be so well-defined and muscled, compared to the style of the concept. They look a bit more like older-guy runner's legs, lean and tightly-defined.
Hello to my fellow polycounters! I’ve been working on a character in the evenings after my day-job, in hopes of pushing my portfolio forwards. In the past I’ve either had a fairly generalist portfolio, or the chosen designs were not visually strong. I’ve reflected a lot lately, and decided to push forwards with a stylized…
I'm not sure a poll is a good answer to this question. College really depends on how much effort you decide to put into it and teach yourself, just like those who chose not to pursue getting a degree. I myself enjoyed it though since its nice to work on developing yourself alongside other people interested in the same…
