Yeah F8, sounds great, but... it's with my equipment I need to aim for the sweet spot. The closer the shot, the higher F is better, but my camera has 16mpx and best approach for me was f3.2 and fairly nice distance. I'm not sure what kind of lighting/shadow set up you're using but the shadows are really sharp. Sharp shadows are a hallmark of fake 3D and are almost never found in the real world, alien or otherwise. For 90% of all shadows try to get a nice soft blurred edge. Ah, I see. Is on left lowpoly with normal map applied, on the right lowpoly mesh shading? Personally, like to reduce the mesh shading gradients for such objects so that the normal map has less to compensate, keeping its limited bit depth in mind.
