'Hand painted' is not the same as 'hand generated'. For instance, if I recall correctly, Naughty Dog did not use any photo sourcing for the Uncharted games, but few people would refer to those games as 'hand painted'. There is no big rule or definition that I think everyone could agree on. There are definitely some games…
Why can't you use a soft brush? If you use a hard brush to blend (like a round or chalk stamp) you're going to get that "hand-painted" texture to some extent. If you're going to keep polishing the blending until it looks smooth, it makes more sense to me to use a soft brush instead and get to that point faster. You seem to…
no im talking about retopo for hard surface by hand... most of the time its faster to remodel the shape... clicking with a retopo tool onto the surface leads often to to even meshes... you loose a lot of the hard edged stuff... it depends on the model but what i see from the picture above i would remodel it by hand...
Looks cool. Personally I disagree with increasing contrast. I've worked on a couple of hand painted stylized games as an environment artist, and you really don't want to have contrast in your textures. Doing so will generate far too much noise. You ideally want your lighting and special effects to handle contrast. The way…
Yes, drawing skills will come in handy later on as complexity progresses but for now learning the workflow basics should suffice; https://www.udemy.com/3dmotive-learn-the-hand-painted-texturing-style-for-video-games/
Here is a quick update of the Texture I am working on. Keep in mind that I don't have a lot of experience with Hand-painting Textures.:( Feedback and critique will be very much appreciated. I have only been focusing on the handle the rest is just a quick color sketch.:) More Updates will follow..
Hello everyone. Over the last few weeks I have began learning hand painted textures. Here are a few of the props I have made for a small diorama type projects. They are only diffuse maps and 100% hand painted in photoshop. The first image is the props implemented into Unity 5. This is my first 3 weeks of hand painting so…
Discovered my favorite method for hand painting texture now - High poly sculpt in Zbrush, bake some maps, and use those as the basis for a paint-over. A quick "experiment" I did. Mainly used the fast mallet tool on a high size/low intensity until I got the shapes build up, then refined and build edges using the hard polish…
For the longest time it's been 16 bones per hand: 1 hand bone + 3 bones for each finger = 16 bones total Do this in real life: Make a VERY TIGHT fist then a slightly more RELAXED fist. Keep constricting from relaxed fist to very tight fist. Now relax your hand completely and touch the tip of your pinky to the tip of your…
this really depends on what work the studio has to offer to a junior. IMO choose what seems more appealing to you and tailor your portfolio around that so that you get hired to do what you want to do, and if you don't get hired at least you'll have had fun. Realistically you will need both, and there are like... a small…
