Yes, and this is a major problem with the modern game industry. A publisher who maintained their own R&D department apart from any individual developer would have a major advantage. I'm still not sure why they seem so resistant to the idea. Investing in a communal pool of tools and resources that are made available to all…
Lot's of good points. My unified theory is: 1. Demise of the unified gaming community. Once upon a time everybody played the same game. Think about it. Quake (in my mind) started the custom skin hobby. During clan play, folks wanted to play with clan skins that were custom to them. Quake 2 gave us the custom player model.…
If you enjoy watching other people working and is more familiar with the tools I highly recommend watching Torfrick on Twitch. It can give a lot of ideas on how to use certain tools on certains circunstances, and he uses MeshFusion to design some shapes, which is pretty cool too.…

There just seems like so much breathing room available yet to push these systems as new dev tools are created. Just adding more detail is just going to make the budgets larger…
I am hoping that besides the "tool that anyone can mod doom with" ... that Snap Map might start IdTech down a path that reveals power under the hood. If popular ID could further contribute to competition and hopefully further inspire the tech in other available engines. Even if marketed for idiot proofing the snap map…

Polyshift is really great, it's like soft selection on steroids. It's great for breaking up symmetry on a finished model, or quickly adjusting a model's proportions. Just tried the new update - being able to use the Polydraw tool in screenspace now is awesome! The border tool is one I use a lot, using it in screenspace is…
