Re: Weapon polycount?
This was pretty much my thought - I could swear I had read on a a source SDK wiki that most of the HL2 weapons were between 4 and 7k. There is no reason for an FPS weapon to be that low. That's lower than a number of the third person weapons I've made :D -

A few weapons

Staff Weapon-Critique
This is a staff weapon from concept art from the Age of Conan, Hyborian Adventures. I don't know the actual name for it, so I named it after an African tribe who uses staffs as weapons and in ceremonies. Let me know what you think. Thanks. -

Yeah, I agree with @Meloncov Depending on the studio, Environment Artists can dabble on environment art-related pieces, and props. And, I guess, for those props, they be statues? maybe? or weapons? If you're at a studio with no weapon artist, but a designated Character Artist, and some Environment Artist, quote-unquote, 3D… -
Modular weapon pieces
I've noticed that there are many weapon parts that could be modeled in high-poly and reused when creating new weapons. Muzzles, magazines, cylinders, bolts, handles, etc. Is this something common? Having many high-poly parts, stitch them together, then create the low-poly and go ahead with it? -
