Hi guys. Just a couple general questions regarding environment art. 1. I see people talk about using a “second UV channel” for things like rocks. Is this the same as just overlaying a tiling detail normal on top of your base textures in UE4? 2. When building modular, I see people say “it will scale up nicely” when using a…
Thanks computron!. -pt1- Here's a brief rundown, experiences and mistakes I've encountered when I was creating this environment. This is my first project using cryengine and I've learned lots of things, I've been dreaming to create this kind of documentations so that you guys can give me crits about my current workflow in…
hey all, so I started this project to create a handpainted dungeon/forge in viking style (dragons etc.) It is supposed to be for a dungeon runner game but I also want to make it for the use in my portfolio. My main objectives are to learn a lot about handpainted textures and modular construction so I can quickly generate…
Modular sci-fi nightclub made in UE4. Complete with hologram strippers. Made as part of the Game Art and Design program at Ringling College for the junior modular construction assignment. I was responsible for about half of the assets and materials. My teammate and I combined both of our modular kits to create two…
Here comes a quick update on my art progress thus far on the environment, i will put up some more images on the level plan tomorrow. I've been working a lot on my modular parts lately, enhanced what i had from the start and added more detailed modular roof pieces. I now got several different parts of the roof which adds…
Here is the Entrance of the Fast & Furious 6 Safe House. Side View of the Elevator showing some of the modular assets.... Most of the assets are modular, which allows me to quickly put my scene together. The Pillar and wall being the main ones. The wall is the most useful of all the assets if i have to be honest. It is the…
Well, modular parts look fine. Polycount is fine as well, as long as the modular parts have proper LODs and LOD away most of the detail. Especially if you have decent culling in the game as well, then that could mean that half of the building wouldn't even be showing if you're on one side of it. Or most of the building…
This will always happens between modular meshs. Just because they don't share the same baked texture. One way to avoid is to create one larger mesh. But that destroys the modular worklflow. Other way is to change some settings in the World Settings. -Indirect Lighting Quality 2 or higher should work -Decrease ndirect…
Hello! These are the living quarters on board the spacecraft. The level will consist of three bedrooms with bunk beds, a general toilet combined with a shower, and a corridor. Since this is a modular environment, I started by creating a level map out of cubes representing individual modules. The next step was to create…
