Hands down, Garden Warefare 2 has some of my favourite environments to date in any game I've ever played. The attention to detail in this game is ridiculous, even on the models that are far outside the maps. The team are so talented and inspiring. Keep up the amazing work.
Sorry to sort of steal your thread, but Ive been wanting to make some tiles but I never got around to it. When I saw this thread it inspired me to actually do it. And I just wanted your guys opinion and crits on mine so far:
Not much to critique here. You've shown us a cube. Make it less cube-y would be a start. Don't forget about Z-axis design. Multiple levels. It's really flat right now. Look at some old UT maps if you need inspiration.
I wanna start with another personal project. I think is going to be an abandoned warehouse used as a hacker's hideout. I've been gathering reference pics and doing a little concept art inspired by the way FZD does theirs. Next step is making bricks in substance!
Hey Tim! Like I said, awesome that you were spurred on by our concept art to create something! It's a great being able to inspire! Thanks for the compliments on the concept art as well! You're up on our dev blog now :) http://snowcastlegames.com/fan-art/
You guys should check out the updated Frame Mesh feature too. It will draw curves on the geometry edges, polygroup edges, and creased edges. It adds some much needed precision for the curves brushes, and it's good for funky scifi kitbashing or Giger inspired greeble. :p
thanks Man :D Initially the inspiration was diesel punk and Tor Fricks mech work, but the project has definitely shifted! I have changed my reference to be more like the fallout power armor and that 50s robot design for the clunkyness yet retaining smooth panels.
Great work, guys! I love seeing everything posted here. Helps keep the inspiration up. Between all the support posts I make and the other stuff I do for Quixel, sometimes it's nice to finally finish a project: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/46YPn
I saw all the CA talks at GDC, and it was all great stuff. I'd spent some time last year building a similar substance pipeline, but you guys have really taken it to another level. Super inspiring, thanks so much for sharing all this!
Looks fantastic, I liked all of the campaign trailers. Glad to find out Hans Zimmer was doing the music, I love games with good soundtracks. The New York backdrop kinda reminds of the movie Cloverfield, did you guys actually take inspiration from it?
