Your poly distribution is not exactly efficient, the forehead and chin have too many segments compared to areas that will do the actual deformation. Dont collapse the corners of the mouth, it's a common mistake, instead build the mouth like this: http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/mouth_tutorial/mouth.asp Represent…
Hello, How can i be sure a low poly props/assets i'm modeling are not too heavy? for example - if i model a ww2 helmet how can i be sure what polycount is fine ? if it's 12k low poly then it's probably too much ? which is not ok for games? but does it means it's useless completely? can it be used for example in cinematics?…
I'm working on a group project about a couple of gremlins who end up in a Junkyard after WW2 with nothing to do. Even though this is a rendered short, I'd like to push my character and assets to be suitable as possible game models, character being around 10k polygons. This character is evil and mischievous and makes his…
That's a very good, well written overview - thanks. It kinda skips the ear but this tut by Krishna Costa covers all you need to know. Looks like the screenshot used here is from that tutorial anyways. Once you've made one you'll never need another (cuz everyone hates doin' ears).…
I'd switch to realistic mode in Max2012, or use a shader like: 3point shader http://www.3pointstudios.com/3pointshader_about.shtml Laurens Corign's viewport shader. http://www.laurenscorijn.com/viewportshader I haven't heard of the shader your using and the two listed above are known to work. Also the way you unwrapped it…
@Tree-Turtle: I suggest you try the high poly! This is seems to be a good place to experiment. I got a little further on my sculpt, I'm dubbing her Queen of the Waste! She stole the German WWI helmet from a wrecked museum and found the Lacrosse goggles. The mouth guard isn't authentic Japanese samurai, it's just a…
I am just going to post some of the good brands. most of their beers are always good. Fat Tire: http://www.newbelgium.com/beer/fat-tire Ommegang: http://www.ommegang.com/ Three Floyds: http://www.3floyds.com/ The three floyds beers are really unique. They just kinda grab whatever is laying around and make beer out of it.…
Thank you for the reply. I am indeed using reference pictures (see below for link): http://www.3d.sk/photos/showSet/id/4027/thumb/small/page/7 One thing I did notice about this particular person is the average proportions of 8 head heights to the total body height didn't really apply...it's closer to 7.

Yeah, you're not going to get very far trying to make 3D models with 2D applications. You could try this http://www.123dapp.com/catch but you'd need way more than 3 pictures. Or you could learn a 3D program like Blender. I'd recommend Blender since it's free and there's no need to pay thousands of dollars to model 1 chair.
