Hello Polycount!! I'm working on a new project for my portfolio and I wanted to do a deep-dive on the Overwatch style. I'm taking Sombra's early concept and turning it into 3D. I'd like to get some feedback on the sculpt so far before I move ahead blindly. I'd really like to achieve a similar style as Overwatch, especially…
Hello people. I'm working with a small team, and we are developing a MMORPG game. We are trying to gather as much technical information as posible, and one of the most important things that we need to solve is the polygon count for the characters (players). What's the budget nowadays?. I know that Blizzard used around 500…
The first game it'll be implemented in is Guitar Hero: World Tour. Somehow, I was under the impression ingame ads were to support a free game, or at least to substantially lower the price of a game. There's no indication anything of the sort os happening here, so are we getting ads in a full-price game? That's a disgrace.…
Hey there! My name's Perry and I'm currently a student in Australia, this is also the first time I have ever used a forum like this in any way. If anyone could give me some cc on ways that I can improve my folio to help me get into a position when I finish my studies, it would be greatly appreciated :) Here are some of my…
So I decided to make a weapon from a WoW concept, but not have it end up being 14 polygons! I have gotten a lot of comments from friends about how the monochromatic look hurts the design, and how the practicality of the weapon is somewhat questionable. I just wanted to get some feedback here about whether this is an okay…
Thanks Obscura. I haven't seen that link before. Very nice. I rushed the tree and added it last minute. It wasn't a requirement for class but added it anyway and probably shouldn't have lol. I created a normal map for my leaf textures but had issues with the shader I had made and ran out of time. I will try to address that…
I was about to mention this before I saw your post. Good call! Another thing I'd do is extrude some of those roof tiles out to add some depth. This will help quite a bit since the player will likely view them from below. Blizzard does this quite a bit in Diablo 3 too. Check out the rooftops in old Tristram for reference.…
To offer a different perspective... A very full portfolio of hyper realistic characters is the 'easiest' way to land a job in the industry. Its the easiest way to demonstrate fundamental knowledge (Anatomy, wrinkles, surfacing, ... etc) and there's generally a WAY higher demand for it. Something I often get my students to…
I just broke into the game industry as a project manager. Having worked in a corporate culture as a consultant for about 9 years I really wanted a chance and something to do with video games. As much as I like to make game art as a hobby I couldn't see myself pushing pixels and vertices around all day (besides the pay cut…
This is my current project. Also from a tutorial. However I decided to deviate from the main concept quite a bit and follow along in order to learn more. In this one I am going for an ancient temple stylized dungeon theme much like the work done by Michael Vicente and other Blizzard artists. The last image is a quick…
