Why do so many initial question ask for 'best' !? Why not ask 'what is a good...' as there is no such thing as a best, anyway my push in this thread: Alchemy: http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?t=52370 http://al.chemy.org/ [ame] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYYSxZZzgjc[/ame] Is in my opinion a good path because…
Hello, I am an 2d artist that wishes to learn some 3d software in order to help my work be more accurate. I have a sci-fi / fantasy world I am illustrating and would like the elements in the art to be accurate distances / sizes / perspectives (think buildings in the near & far background). I have essentially zero 3d…
I know I sound like I work for Luxology but once I tried Modo I never went back. Best modeling tool I've ever used and I've never been more productive. The thing is an absolute BEAST.
So I'm working on a MOBA game. We're going for the classic hand-painted art style, which means little to no tiling textures. I've been working on the ground texture on and off for the past few weeks but it is an incredibly daunting task, I've never seen any tutorials about how to do something like this and it's hard to…
Finding something to help you get started can be hard sometimes. Like you said, you know how to do basic stuff like import, export, etc. There are a lot of resources out now that can help you get more acquainted with the tools in zBrush as well as more advanced ones. That being said, as you go along and find tutorials…
Beast and Turtle can actually be tuned and fiddled with quite a bit if you want to go digging through the guts. Stuff like bounce behavior can be altered fairly easily (usually bounce boost at least is exposed). The biggest thing to think about is colour correction using curves or a ramp. Without it, it sorta looked like a…
Hi guys, I am currently working on a second bachelor degree thesis (communication design). I already have a bachelor in Games Art & Design and work as a 3D Artist in VR. So my current project strays a little from what I do on a daily basis which is why I popped into here to see if anyone can help me along. I am working on…
Hey guys and gals. Weeks ago I quickly sketched out some concepts of different shields. It was a time when I was starting The Old Republic, and I kind of wondered to myself what it might be like if Jedi Knights actually carried shields to fend off heavy blaster fire. All normals are being done in nDo2. The greybox screen…
Hey polycount people, first post here. I'm in the process of strengthening my portfolio a bit before I send it out to local companies, so I'm rapidly reaching into things just a bit beyond me. I'm just finishing a university degree, but courses on 3d and art in general were pretty basic, so I'm 99% self-taught and muddling…
This is the nature of the beast. You will get this kind of smoothing with only this much geometry. Adding more geo, like Zombie stated would fix it, however a baked normal map from a high poly is probably the best option. Baked normal map below.
