The floaters are just Pom failings, might have cranked it too high :) - the snow is completely precedural in cryengine and has some major flaws which you have noticed. Really appreciate such constructive crits though, thanks!
in the later versions of max, in the freeform section of the graphite modeling tools there is a tool to draw splines on top of any surface. draw the bevels out, model a beveled strip and path-deform/extrude along the spline. easy floaters!
Hey, how would I go about modeling in text in a helmet as seen below. It won't have the same words but similar, and it needs to be actually MODELED into the helmet mesh and not a floater. I believe there is a modifier which makes shapes into a sphere shape, would this be of use?
Thats a little better, i think you can go more tho. I like to exaggerate my edge bevels a bit, it helps to make things more interesting. Especially with a gun like this, that has a softer polymer material. A sort of rule of thumb that i use, if your edges are so tight that there is noticable aliasing when viewing the…
This is all about comparing workflows, so literally any possible method that you think is viable, please by all means go right ahead. This is game art focused, so we wont be looking down upon using floaters, adding stuff in with bump/displacement maps or any other tricks you can think of. I think for people who really want…
Are you saying that the low poly model doesn't need to have corresponding separate geometry aka "floaters" and that I can just bake my final high-res sub-tools and all onto one single mesh?
Pretty awesome! Any way to take a peek at the High Poly's? I'm guessing you straight used max and used floaters for the dimples on the silencer and grips? Or did you mash those in with Zbrush? Great speed either way. :)
BenHenry : allright thanks next group of models I will try make them floaters and see how it goes yeah they called lightmaps dont know why I said shadoooowmaps! :P I'm must going insane.
I hate to keep asking questions, but I see that years ago you had 9 possible positions for the pivot in your transform floater and now you only have 4. What happened to the 9-pivot position button?
Yeah, definitely go with PhilipK's suggestions! Also, you could add some cool animating overlays on the blue bits in the floor. And holographic floaters here and there to break up the monotone-ness. You know, bring in some color and variation!
