If you're going to bake the metal circles don't forget to add big champfers or else they won't show up in the normal map, like this : You can find more about baking normal maps in the wiki : http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Normal_map
If particles gets to complicated you can animate simple planes yourself. For something like a growing/shrinking glowing circle of runes on the ground you really don't need a particle emitter. But if you're showering the scene in sparks an emitter is very helpful.
Texture tutorial? I can't wait, seeing how my textures are always somewhat... lacking :) Great stuff btw. The charger in 2033 has a square-ish coil thing, whereas yours has a circle one - just pointing that out.
It's funny, but I personally, rarely used max splines to create tubes. I used it to create... arches! Gothic, Moorish, Moroccan, and other similar, which are not simply half circle. And that is one thing I find quite difficult to do in modo.
This piece won't be hitting an editor so they will just be rendered out in maya. I saw a nice texturing for environment the other day and now I cant find it, had a circle and arrows on a brick texture and showed how to use thirding and stuff. :/
Hi @all, i made this cup and tried to unwrap it in 3ds Max. The overall unwrapping looks good so far. But at the beginning of the handle i have a bit distortion. (marked with red circle) Is there a way to make it a bit better, or is it normal like it is now? Best Regards Chris
Been using MAX for 5 years. Archi Rendering and Professional Game Design. I'm getting sick of it however, it's extremely dated and relies too heavily on plugins. Still no way to make a circle without scripts. Would you guys switch to Maya or Blender?

IDK how to export hard edges from maya into smoothing groups in max. Maybe google can help there. But for this specific model, in your last pic, hit autosmooth in the red circle by a low angle number like 5.
