ok, thanks... so vertex painting and decals should be done in the gameEngine itself. In the 3d application you just do the basic model and tiling textures. Do you know of any vertex painting tutorials for the CryEngine?
Looks great! A couple of questions if you don't mind, Is the snow on the buildings are decals or is it layered materials? Can you show a birds-eye view of the map? The mountains behind the village (the blurry ones) are all the same mesh?
A nice way to get those tire tracks would be to sculpt them and back them out! Then add them to a decal with just the normals, then plop them down. Or add the backed out normals to the floor materials themselves
@Doomathon Yeah I'll give it its own UV space because its opacity masked. It's kind of like a decal though, just a floating plane on the normal mapped gauge area. It has a normal map for the cracks
You can't. The repeating nature of the texture will always be noticeable, to a greater/lesser degree depending on the distinctive appearance of certain features in the texture. One way to hide it is to layer/blend it with other textures, and/or use decals to break it up.
Ah yes! If you wanna go down the whole floater rabbithole, there's a great thread about it over at technical talk http://polycount.com/discussion/155894/decal-technique-from-star-citizen/p1 gl hf
Update on a wall texture I made in Substance Designer. I'm going to be using this on most of the upper portions on the walls as the base. Later, I plan on breaking this guy up with some decals. Here are some in engine shots
Delicious ! I wonder if you could use some kind of blended material in UE in order to leverage both regular UVs (for the normals, and wear and tear) and more of a tiled/projected set of UVs for high resolution decals ...
everything is too clean, its definitely awesome, really good job. I can also see you dont have any foliages, would be awesome if you add it there, maybe hanging clothes ?? Decal posters ??
Thanks! The cracks are all decals, i will make them more sensible. Yea that's a good idea with the poles, will do ^^ The stripped car would be really cool to add, i will see what i can do with that tho.
