I was painting a low-poly mushroom when I realized that painting on the upper cap affected both the lower cap and the stalk as well. Why? I know the UVs aren't perfect, but they're not overlapping, so I'm just trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong here or if there's something I just don't understand (I am…
Hey guys, I have posted something similar 2 days ago but I didn´t got my Question completely answered, maybe because it was too inaccurately so I decided to try it again. So I saw Fanny Vergne´s work (1.) and was very impressed. I just love this stylized/hand painted style and before I saw her work, I thought the best way…
I was wondering if anybody knew if it was possible to paint (out seams) over multiple textures/ materials using either 3DSMax's viewport canvas or ZBrush? Alternatively a free program which could accomplish this would be great as well. The only way I can think of doing it at the minute is pretty convoluted and involves…
Hey Polycount, First time posting here! Been looking around at projects on here for a while and saw how awesome this place is for feedback so I thought I'd share this project I'm working on and try it out myself. Just started it really, straight off the bat, after finishing up my second year Game Art course! Bit of back…
Hello Polycount It has been a long time since I've made work because I've been busy working on Poppermost productions and after that I've been busy working on a schoolproject. But now I we have an assignment to make ANYTHING under a week. So I've decided to make a shotgun made only with hand painted textures, which will be…
Well it depends on what your trying to achieve. The tools are almost exclusively for CGI work, and to that end they do make your job one hell of a lot easier. What the paint effects are, is a way of providing an artistic way to add particle effects. Once added you can them script them to react with the scene, which is a…
If you're just doing diffuse only, I don't see why you would add a spec map. Just paint everything in. If you're doing this to get better at hand painting, I think adding a spec map would be pointless. That said, its a good start. You can definitely push the contrast more to make things pop. And imagine this with top down…
I made this for reddit's dota2 subreddit, but it didn't get much traction. I was curious what you guys thought of the video and of the final piece. I figured that if it did well I would attempt to make an item set based on the painting, but it maybe isn't going to garner enough interest to do so. With that said, i'd like…
yeah I meant 3D often looks too clean cut and well rendered, where 2D paint work is more expressive in gesture and texture and edges cant be all sorts of shapes but still show the overall impression of the object. yeah I would love to see a stylized game that uses something like this to have characters and locations that…
I guess i should just keep praticing then.. I'm feeling a bit less clueless about hand painting now, less than i was before that is. Now my current project to improve both modeling and painting (also finally did my own UV layout rather than blender's smart UV) She's 800 tris, i'm painting on a 512 x 512 map inside blender.…
