I've noticed a trend of actual designers being more positive on game design degrees. So the degrees that focus on game design instead of the hodgpodge programming/animation/modeling/design degrees some of the schools teach.
Referring to game design will cause some confusion, Game Design is it's own discipline that involves the design of game play, systems, etc... You could say there are 3 pillars to game development: Art, Code & Design.

Pretty normal for cascade shadows to have artifacts like this. You'll often see this kind of gap/artifact on hats in video games from the last 2 or 3 generations. You might be able to design around it by making the windows their own model with depth going into the wall.
