Ah I found it.. for whatever reason you have to enable nodes by clicking "use Node" why would you have to enable nodes when that is all the node editor is used for. weird but okay

You are not suppose to toggle trigger objects nor toggle their Enabled bools, you are to use the Event output on a Toggle action on the trigger to turn them on and off. Enabled itself is never used for in-game on/off switching.
As far as I know, these points appear when you have Dynamic Subdivision enabled and there are sharp angles in the geometry. Check the geometry tab for Dynamic Subdivision. Sometimes people enable it by accident when pressing D.
