thats more of programming/debugging rather than an art question and should be asked on the unity board ... but if you had a screenshot of your door and your cube setup to compare maybe i could help ...
Well browser based these days just means anything that runs in a browser window, which could even mean unity. In this case it seems to be actionscript3, which is pretty damn capable vs its predecessors.
I'm working on something to solve that very problem. It's nearly finished, I'm just waiting on my programmer partner to finish the Unity side of the plugin so we can release it. (Model by Mario Castaneda)
These issues don't occur in Unity or Ue4. It's not PBR that's inflexible. It's the engine you're using. I've never seen the halo effect you're talking about and I've used all kinds of PBR enabled engines.
A model for my fan game project in unity, hair and gun are still missing (currently the polycount is at 20k). Although this is ZX's zero, the game's story will be in MegamanX's timeline, i chose to use zx's zero because his design (mainly the legs).
In the image below is a cropped concept for the forest of our game(left=normal/ right=brightened) .. And this is what i have now in Unity. The models are rough the textures aren't. So what are you thinking i'm doing wrong? Also here are my textures.
