Mayterials Day 7 - Ancient: Today's prompt immediately made me think of Breath of the Wild and after some brainstorming and tinkering I landed on this. Rather than directly recreating a material, I made this using elements from the Shrines as inspiration.
Thanks Brain, im trying to get a little of that ancient look and feel to the character and the red and gold just go hand in hand haha. Here are some updates to the model and some staff designs im looking at. Just trying to experiment a little.
Ricks dished out some great advice, in addition to the Ancient Pig tutorials, you should also check out http://hippydrome.com/ Lots of animated examples, weighting ideas, joint placement, range of motion examples, lots of good stuff.
Did max update it's hair and fur plug-in? Last time I checked it was an ancient version of shave and a haircut. They put xgen in Maya and there there are some workflows for games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Fs6rle_IbE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLCpswLL6D4
The silhouette of the thing reads like one of those "creatures from the black lagoon" monsters from ancient horror movies. If it is to be a Doom inspired monster, I'd consider filling out the silhouette by adding in some mech components -- something like the Revenant.
nazedo, fantasymaster & sebeuroc: Thx for your kind words! Playing with proportions and some updates on the armor. The general idea is about an ancient ritual armor ( the beauty ) that contains the furious beast. I hope this week I'll finish the blockout. Cheers!!
In that case, don't ever, ever, ever try to read about what was going on in medieval Europe or in ancient Rome. Martin is actually quite light on the violence and decadence compared to what was actually being done by our real ancestors. Yours too.

Sennheiser cx300s for on the go, and need some new work cans as mine have been buggered for a while, at home a pair of ancient floorstandard speakers placed either side of my ears, they cancel out noise by drwoning it with bass (not very portable)
"ancient art of hitting a target with a harpoon and "pulling" large chunks of meat off them" FTW Looks good Jouste, needs a little more saturation of color like you other sketches tho. note to self: get a bandanna with a leprechaun in it.
