If youre fresh out of 3d school (game related education) what is way to go about getting a job. Just apply for positions directly even if you dont qualify or just the junior entry level positions? Or will that hurt my future chances?

Welcome in this beautiful day. Houdini 15 should be released today, but before it happens you can read the future list. For 3dsmax guys, there is a Houdini Engine for Max available for testing, but it's only on Github, so I suppose it will require compilation.

@sprunghunt Yep, I got it working a couple days ago and that's how I did it! I was making it more complicated than it needed to be. The auto-masking is really cool. You can double click on the mesh in the viewport, or in the scene list to select the material as well. The UI doesn't jump to the material in the material editor yet, but we plan to add this in a future version.
