First off, sorry I didn't respond to anyone's questions earlier. I should probably subscribe to threads in the future. I am using Cascade currently for a one week contract at a local game company. Cascade is a fantastic particle system and I'm enjoying using it. I have used it a bit in the past so I was not completely…
@Ashervisalis On starting the
mentorship program I mainly wanted to improve my buildings and
foliage. You choose what you are wanting to focus on and the project
that you do with guidance from Ryan. I've quickly listed what I
learnt below – although keep in mind I wasn't a complete beginner
at some of this but Ryan helped…
martenzander said: Yes, it's very common. I think that tutorial just tried to make things simple and in doing so made things more complicated than it needed to be. Here are some other tutorials that go through the process with the arms in an A-Pose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOokoFED7QE…
The "If->Then" and the "I do" I hope I can show you a bit of understanding between the coders and the artists and the conflict which can appear between those caracters. I have something like a coder history, I got very deeply into that for some years, guess I can say that I lived it like a total freak in that time + I…
Knald is great at creating all these maps. i use the convexity maps to create masks for edge ears which can be used to paint roughness/gloss maps easier and specular highlights etc. you can just copy the convexity from Knald to an alpha channel/load selection and use it as a layer mask.
How are rugs typically done? I'm going to be creating a Victorian rug and i'm wondering if Substance Designer is the way to go to create a complex pattern that will remain mainly flat, other than creases and folds that can be done using the geometry that the material will be on. Back in the day, slapping a texture from the…
Howdy guys I have been using Nurbs subdivision in edit poly mode to create my hi-poly meshes. But now ive been introduced to the crease tool in the meshsmooth modifier Now I tend to use the nurbs subdivision to "preview" get the final result then the meshsmooth + crease to get the hard edges I may want. But the problem im…
Great looking stuff so far! I opened the rusted metal fence prop and got a nice simple breakdown which is great but when I opened the window prop and the RE2 door there aren't any breakdowns, it's just a single image which i personally think is a little unfortunate. You could maybe benefit from putting some of these props…
How I started I started messing around with 3d art in late 2009 and I just learned through trial and error and some tutorials online. I eventually got involved with the modding and indie community which taught me some valuable things along the way even if the games did not succeed, I also met some great people. Hardships &…
Ah thanks for the kind works, I really appreciate it! I'm no master, but I'm certainly trying to be one day. I'm pretty young and I have a lot of exciting days of art ahead of me. I originally studied industrial design in a very strong program with a heavy emphasis on fundamentals. This I believe is key. When you're able…
