Bolts and hoses! everywhere in R&C has bolts and hoses jammed into it. Doesn't always make sense but it looks cool. Rounded surfaces. Curve surfaces. Look at www.creaturebox.com for style inspiration. Too many 90 and 45 degree angles at the moment.
@capone Nice! Glad to see ya take your spin on it! You might also try approaching tilting by creating a tilted surface as you normally would, then isolate the edges of that surface, and combine it with the edges of the cracks multiplied on top. Just an idea.
Well, in this case I had no issue deleting the extra geo. Maybe because the surface is flat? But as long as I can remember, I never had problem with my normal maps after deleting the extra Geo, at least with hard surface.
are you looking to replicate maya's live surface thing? if so, check out freehandtools by fred moreau. that one let's you paint splines onto a surface if i recall right. used it in the shag hair days to make guide lines.
The latest in progress for the Terraformer Mech: We received feedback from hard surface industry professionals working on Starfield. The changes made were: Extend the reach of the legs, Move the front legs sockets back and outward to make room for arms. extend the length of the laser, and remove the top nozzle. We have…
Created a base model and applied texture using stencil painting. The texture is a Midjourney-generated image, enhanced with custom masks to control color and displacement mapping. By layering multiple displacement nodes, I added surface depth, blending the details for a realistic effect. The mask allows precise control…
I actually meant unwrapping low res and then detailing it / sculpting over / keeping original UV . Floaters if they are one sided and borrow uv from surface bellow bakes as a single surface in Blender . Zbruch decimate has keep UV option BTW
I did a bunch of research on various forms of metal corrosive and wear protection processes, such as Black phosphate, anodizing, parkerizing etc. All of these oxidize the surface and make it dielectric. Does this mean that firearms and other metals that use these processes should be black in the metal channel as they are…
Yeah you can't simply rebake a normal map as a an emission texture, because the pixels encode for a 3D vector, based on a space defined by the surface normal and surface U direction (aka tangent space). New UV orientation = the tangent space has changed.
We’ve all been there. You find a "bargain" 3D studio or a freelancer with a killer ArtStation, but three weeks later, you’re the one staying up until 2 AM fixing non-manifold geometry and flipped normals. The truth? The hidden cost to make a video game isn't the initial invoice — it’s the "rework tax." If you’re a Lead…
