I was also found by a few customers through the ALFW. Basically it is one of a few options to find at least something for freelance artists who doesn't have connections in industry. But something is really happening nowadays as Blaisoid already mentioned. Does it mean that gamedev is in crisis, or it is simply overwhelmed…
Hey guys, I'm super happy to hear positive comments. Thanks! Speaking of buying individual videos and nex month's lesson, I'm afraid I don't really know much about it. Tyler (gamedev) and Don (Ott) might be able to tell you more about it.
Thank you very much for your response! I have indeed already asked this on /r/gamedev - I was just hoping to cast a wide net to get some answers. Are there any other game dev-focused websites that would also be a good idea to ask the question to?
Hey guys, Let's say you need to make a 3D object with a budget of 2k polygons, does that mean 2k tris or 2k quads ? I know that the engine converts everything to tris, but I'm not sure what polycount means in the vocabulary of gamedev.
This is a very nice story by Kenney: http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/2z0tys/publishing_free_game_assets_can_lead_to_great/ Most artists i know have this feeling about public domain or open-source, but it can be great thing. It's very nice what Kenney has being doing for the indie game dev community.
From my experience it's same in every ray-tracer I tried. And always been that way. Mostly coming from sky/environment light . Guess it's why they do small quads with displacement + actual bevels instead of hard edges outside of gamedev. Hard edges is a gamey thing. Actually I have seen a subtle hard edge reveling with…
Whether you're looking for Blender specific training, fundamentals of 3D art, or art in general, I'd recommend Blender Guru. It's not gamedev related, but you can learn plenty of useful things there. This is how I got into Blender a couple of years ago.
r/gamedev is pretty active, but it's more programmer/one man indie focused. Most people on this forum would probably be posting replies from an artist perspective, which is usually underrepresented there. They do love their free 2D tilesets for unity though.
i'm leaning towards tuesday because wednesday is sketchnight and thursday could be gamedev beer night. I'll leave this up for a couple days before making the facebook event so i can get feedback or suggestions if people have any.
if I were you I'd make some awesome art, then post on gamedev and see if you couldnt find yourself a partner. Its near impossible to find someone for a giant project, but for a small possible one there are usually a few interested people.
